Lyrics

Thus the Lord GOD showed me And behold, locusts were forming

When the spring vegetation had come up And behold, it was the late growth I said, O Lord GOD, forgive, I beg you How can Jacob stand, he is so small

The LORD repented concerning this It shall not be, said the LORD Thus he showed me, and behold A fire called forth by the Lord GOD

It devoured the great deep and was eating up the land Then I said, O Lord GOD, cease, I beg you How can Jacob stand, he is so small

The LORD repented concerning this It shall not be, said the LORD He showed me again, standing on a wall Made with a plumb line, with a plumb line

The LORD said to me, Amos, what do you see I said, A plumb line Then the LORD said, Behold, I will set a plumb line In the midst of my people Israel

I will no longer pass by them The high places of Isaac shall be desolate The sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste

Amaziah said to Amos, O you seer Go, flee away to the land of Judah But I am not a prophet, nor a prophet’s son I am a herdsman and a dresser of fig trees The LORD took me from following the flock
