Lyrics
When the seventh month had come The people gathered themselves together as one man to Jerusalem
Jeshua the son of Jozadak stood up with his brothers the priests And Zerubbabel and his relatives And built the altar of the God of Israel To offer burnt offerings on it
In spite of their fear because of the peoples of the lands They set the altar on its base And they offered burnt offerings to the LORD Morning and evening
They kept the feast of booths And offered the daily burnt offerings As it was written, as the duty of every day required
Foundation of the LORD’s temple Foundation of the house of God Built on the ancient stones Built in Jerusalem
They also gave money to the masons and carpenters They gave food, drink, and oil To bring cedar trees from Lebanon To the sea, to Joppa
When the builders laid the foundation The priests stood in their vestments with trumpets The Levites with cymbals To praise the LORD
Foundation of the LORD’s temple Foundation of the house of God They sang to one another in praise For his loving kindness endures forever
All the people shouted with a great shout When they praised the LORD Because the foundation had been laid
