Lyrics

Isaac was old and his eyes dim He called Esau his elder son to him Take your weapons and go hunt venison Bring it to me that I may bless you before I die

Rebekah heard what Isaac spoke She said to Jacob get me the goats I will make savoury food such as your father loves Go and obey my voice Let your curse be on me, my son

Jacob said Esau my brother is hairy But I am smooth What if my father touches me? I will seem to him as a deceiver But Rebekah put Esau’s good clothes on him And skins of goats upon his hands Upon the smooth of his neck

He came to his father and said My father Isaac said who are you, my son?

I am Esau your firstborn I have done what you asked me Please arise and eat my venison That your soul may bless me

Isaac said how have you found it so quickly? Because the LORD your God gave me success Isaac said come near that I may feel you The voice is Jacob’s voice But the hands are the hands of Esau

He didn’t recognise him because his hands were hairy So he blessed him Behold the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD has blessed Let peoples serve you and nations bow down to you Be lord over your brothers

Let your mother’s sons bow down to you Cursed be everyone who curses you Blessed be everyone who blesses you Yes he will be blessed

As soon as Isaac finished blessing Jacob Esau his brother came in from his hunting And Isaac trembled violently Who is he that has taken the venison? He will be blessed
