Lyrics
Contend with your mother, contend She is not my wife, neither am I her husband Let her put away her prostitution Let her remove her adulteries
Lest I strip her naked and make her bare Like the day that she was born Like a wilderness, a dry land Kill her with thirst
On her children I will have no mercy They are children of unfaithfulness Their mother has played the prostitute She who conceived them has done shamefully
I will take back my grain in its time My new wine in its season I will pluck away my wool and my flax Which should have covered her nakedness
I will uncover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers No one will deliver her out of my hand All her celebrations will cease Her feasts, her new moons, her Sabbaths
I will lay waste her vines and fig trees Which she has said, These are my wages Which my lovers have given me I will make them a forest
Therefore behold, I will allure her Bring her into the wilderness Speak tenderly to her I will give her vineyards from there
She will respond as in the days of her youth As in the day when she came up out of Egypt I will betroth you to me forever In righteousness, justice, loving kindness
I will betroth you to me in faithfulness You shall know the LORD They will respond to the heavens The heavens will respond to the earth
