A prophecy against Damascus, Ephraim, and Syria opens this 14-verse oracle, moving from ruined cities to gleaned olives and a night that ends before morning.

Lyrics
The burden of Damascus Behold Damascus is taken away from being a city And it will be a ruinous heap
The cities of Aroer are forsaken They will be for flocks which shall lie down And none shall make them afraid
The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim And the kingdom from Damascus And the remnant of Syria Shall be like the glory of the children of Israel
In that day his strong cities shall be Like the forsaken places in the wood and on the mountain Which were forsaken before the children of Israel
And there shall be desolation Because you have forgotten the God of your salvation And have not been mindful of the rock of your stronghold
Therefore you plant pleasant plants And set out foreign seedlings In the day of your planting you make them to grow And in the morning you make your seed to flourish
But the harvest will fail In the day of grief and desperate sorrow Woe to the multitude of many peoples
Which make a noise like the noise of the seas And to the rushing of nations that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters
But God will rebuke them And they shall flee far off
