Lyrics
The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord Hear the words of this covenant Say to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem
The Lord says I will call all the families Of the kingdoms of the north My people have done evil They have turned from my ways
They have gone after other gods to serve them The house of Israel and the house of Judah Have broken the covenant which I made with their fathers They have gone after other gods to serve them
Will you then call upon me Will I not listen to you When you are in trouble When these troubles come upon you
For according to the number of your cities Were your gods, O Judah And according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem You have set up altars to that shameful thing
Therefore don’t pray for this people Don’t lift up a cry or prayer for them For I will not hear you When they cry to me in their time of trouble
I have loved you with an everlasting love Therefore with loving kindness I have drawn you But you have rejected me And gone after what is not good
What has my beloved to do in my house Since she has done many abominations I have forsaken my house I have left my heritage
I have given it into the hand of her enemies
