Lyrics
In the eleventh year the LORD’s word came to me Who is like you in glory and in greatness Behold the Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon
With fair branches and a shadowing shroud Exceedingly high its top amongst the clouds The waters nourished it the deep made it grow The rivers running around its planting place Sent out rivulets to all the trees of the field
Therefore its stature was exalted above all the trees And its boughs were multiplied its branches long By reason of many waters when it shot them forth All the birds of the sky made their nests in its boughs All the animals of the field bore their young
All the trees of Eden that were in the garden of God Were not like unto it in its beauty I had made it fair by the multitude of its branches So that all the trees of Eden envied it
Therefore thus said the Lord God Because you have lifted up yourself in height And its top is amongst the clouds I will deliver it into the hand of the mighty one of the nations
Strangers the terrible of the nations will cut it off They will leave it on the mountains Its boughs will fall in all the valleys Its branches will be broken in all the watercourses of the land
All the peoples of the earth will come down from their shade When it falls in death All the trees of the field will be comforted
I have delivered it to the hand of the mighty one of the nations He will surely deal with it I have cast it down In the day when it goes down to Sheol
I made the nations to shake at the sound of its fall When I cast it down to Sheol All the trees of Eden the choice and best of Lebanon Shall be comforted in the lower parts of the earth
