Two dated oracles, one from the first day of the month and one from its fifteenth day, frame this 32-verse funeral lament for Pharaoh king of Egypt.

Lyrics
In the twelfth year the LORD’s word came to me Take up a lamentation over Pharaoh king of Egypt Tell him you were like a young lion among the nations
Yet you are destroyed like a monster in the seas Come and devour much flesh I will cause you to become a desolation Make the waters clear from your fountains
I will cover the heavens with darkness Clothe the stars with blackness Cover the sun with a cloud Make the moon withhold its light All the bright lights of heaven I will make dark
I will grieve the heart of many peoples When I shall bring your destruction amongst the nations Into the countries which you have not known Many peoples will be appalled at you
When I shall brandish my sword before them They will tremble every moment every man For his own life in the day of your fall I will bring a sword on you
By the swords of the mighty will I cause your multitude to fall The terrible of the nations are they all They will bring down the pride of Egypt All its multitude will be destroyed
I will destroy also all the beasts thereof from beside the great waters Neither will the foot of man trouble them anymore Will the hoofs of beasts trouble them
Then I will make their waters clear Cause their rivers to run like oil When I have made the land of Egypt desolate The land will be desolate of all that dwell therein
All the inhabitants of Egypt will know that I am the LORD You were the strength of Egypt Yet you will be brought down with those who go down into the pit
