Lyrics
Thus says the Lord Go and buy a potter’s earthen bottle And take with you some of the elders of the people And of the priests
And go forth to the valley of the son of Hinnom Which is by the entry of the pottery gate And proclaim there the words that I will tell you
They have built the high places of Topheth Which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom To burn their sons and daughters in the fire Which I didn’t command, nor did it come into my mind
Therefore behold the days come Says the Lord That this place will no more be called Topheth Nor the valley of the son of Hinnom But the valley of Slaughter
And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem I will cause them to fall by the sword Before their enemies and by the hand of those That seek their lives
And I will give their dead bodies For meat to the birds of the sky And to the beasts of the earth And the city I will make a desolation
I will break this people and this city As one breaks a potter’s vessel That cannot be made whole again And they will bury in Topheth
Till there is no place to bury Thus will I do to this place And to its inhabitants And make this city like Topheth
The houses of Jerusalem and the houses of the kings Shall be as the place of Topheth Defiled
