Lyrics
In the seventh month Ishmael the son of Nethaniah Came with ten men and struck Gedaliah And he died along with the Jews and the Chaldeans That were with him at Mizpah
And all the people both small and great And the captains of the forces arose And went to Egypt for they were afraid Of the Chaldeans
Ishmael also slew all the Jews That were with him even with Gedaliah The servants of the king and the Chaldeans And carried them away captive
So Ishmael carried away all the residue Of the people of Mizpah even the king’s daughters And all the people that remained in Mizpah Whom Nebuzaradan had left
And Ishmael went forth from Mizpah Meeting Johanan and all the captains of the forces With him and all the people went After Ishmael
And Johanan took all the people That Ishmael had carried away from Mizpah The men of war and the women and the children And all the eunuchs
And they returned and went to Geruth Chimham which is by Bethlehem To go into Egypt before the Chaldeans For they were afraid of them
Because Ishmael had slain Gedaliah Whom the king of Babylon had made governor Over the land The whole remnant was scattered again
And they went into Egypt
