Lyrics
The LORD’s word came to Jonah the second time Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city
Make the proclamation that I tell you So Jonah rose and went to Nineveh According to the LORD’s word Nineveh was an exceedingly great city
Jonah began to enter into the city A day’s journey, and he proclaimed Yet forty days and Nineveh shall be overthrown
The people of Nineveh believed God They proclaimed a fast And put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least When the king of Nineveh heard the news
He rose from his throne and laid aside his robe And covered himself with sackcloth and sat in ashes Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock Taste any food or drink water
But let them be covered with sackcloth Both man and beast Let them cry mightily to God, let everyone turn from his evil way
God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way God repented of the evil which he said he would do to them
Judgment turned to mercy The city spared from destruction Repentance triumphing, judgment withheld God relenting from the calamity
The LORD showed mercy to Nineveh When they turned from their evil All flesh shall see his salvation
