Lyrics

In those days when there was no king in Israel A certain Levite sojourning on the side of Mount Ephraim

He took to him a concubine out of Bethlehem Judah His concubine played the harlot against him And she went away from him to her father’s house

He arose and went after her to speak kindly to her And to bring her back, saying, Let us go Then her father saw him and rejoiced to meet him

They turned aside there to lodge because the day was far spent And they lodged in the city of the Jebusites which is Jerusalem

An old man came from his work in the field at even The man was of Mount Ephraim and dwelt in Gibeah He said, I have straw and provender for your asses

As for all your wants, only lodge not in the street So he brought him into his house Behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial

Beset the house round about And beat at the door and spoke to the master of the house Bring forth the man that came into your house That we may know him The old man went out to them and said

Nay, my brethren, do not so wickedly I pray you after that this man came into my house Do not this folly
