A major lowland in northern Canaan, between the Galilee hills and Mount Carmel, running toward Beth-shan and the Jordan. Joshua's tribes found it occupied by Canaanites with iron chariots; later it became the stage for judges (Gideon, Jephthah) and prophets. Saul's final stand occurred on its slopes near Mount Gilboa.
